- The Memorial Day Ceremony was a success! Club Chairman Bob Casey thanked member Larry Caplinger Jr for managing/coordinating the ceremony. Our sincere “Thank You” goes out to those that supported the ceremony as well. 52 community residents were in attendance to honor our military fallen. Refreshments were well received following the events.
- The Flag Day Ceremony is being planned and managed/coordinated by member Harry Dunlap. The ceremony is scheduled for June 14, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Clubhouse Terrace Veterans flagpole near the indoor pool. Please bring your own chair and the veterans club will provide cool refreshments.
New Business:
- If a Veteran has specialty housing needs that has to do with HVAC, bathroom, carport, kitchen, etc they should contact your VA Primary Care Manager or Doctor and work through them. Chairman Bob Casey is working on getting a guest speaker, Karen Powers from VA Service Representative, to come talk to the community veterans in September 2019. Information will be forthcoming soon.
- If a Veteran is desiring a “Help Me I fell” button that contacts emergency services please work through your VA Primary Care Manager or Doctor. There are no known monthly costs for the program and is connected to the local 911 system.
- There will be NO Veterans Club Meetings in July or August 2019. Please make note.
- Note to Disabled Veterans per Treasurer Michael Adams, according to current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, if you buy a NEW car and you request Hand Controls to assist with your disabilities, the dealership must install them without charge.
- Member James Flack brought up the important issue of funeral arrangements and the costs associated with the process. This is a good issue to address so Please note: Veterans must get in “the know” regarding this expensive event so we ask that you contact a funeral home and/or provider of funeral services you are comfortable with…here are a few suggestions: 1) Dignity Memorial at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home 2) Southern Funeral Care, 3) Stowers Funeral Home, etc. Also contact the VA and find out details between what the military, VA or others will/will not pay at that critical time. There are multiple options available to fit your needs, just please don’t leave it to those left behind. Benefits of pre-planning smooths the process, eases the burden on family members and friends, and prevents any disconnects.
- Planning is in progress for having a combination veteran husband/wife Veterans Club meeting possibly in October serving light snacks and refreshments. Stay tuned for further information.
- Planning is starting for the November 11, 2019 Veterans Day ceremony. More information will be forthcoming soon.
- Note to Spouses of Veterans…anyone know of any spouse of a Veteran who served in a major conflict/war? Please contact a VA Service Representative, you may be entitled to benefits under current guidelines!
- Chairman Bob Casey won the 50/50 drawing. He donated 50% of the proceeds back to the Veterans Club.
The next drawing and Veterans Club meeting will be September 2, 2019 at 7:00pm at the Strawberry Ridge Activities Center.
The meeting was motioned for closure by member John Ziarno and seconded by Treasurer Michael Adams at 7:50pm.
